Selket - Egyptian Scorpion Goddess

Protection in the AfterLife - Protection Against Enemies

egyc011sp.JPG (8677 bytes)
Scorpion Goddess Selket Pendant
Beautifully detailed, our miniature version of this famous Egyptian goddess is simply wonderful. This is a heavy, solid, 3-dimensional charm, detailed on all sides, and is a replica of the statue that guarded King Tut's canopic chest.
Silver-plated lead-free pewter.
Approx. 2 in. tall

Depicted as a beautiful, graceful young woman wearing a golden scorpion headdress, Selket ruled scorpions, poisonings, and childbirth. She protected Ra from demons, and protected Auset (Isis) from the dreaded Set (Seth) by sending 7 deadly scorpions to the rescue.

Since she ruled over scorpions, it was believed that she could be petitioned to save those who had been stung by them.

One of her major functions was to protect of Qebehsenuf, the son of Horus who guarded the canopic jars containing the intestines of the deceased, and indeed, she was made famous by her gilded statue guarding the canopic chest of King Tutanhkamon, which toured the United States during the 1970's.

Selket (also Serket, Serqet), is invoked for protection against disease, disaster and enemies.
