Hathor

Worshipped for
over 3,000 years, Hathor was the most powerful of Egyptian goddesses, mother of every god
and every goddess. Her name in Egyptian was Het-Hert, meaning "the womb
above." The Greeks and Romans knew her as "Hathor". She has no beginning and no end. She has no creator, for she is the creator. Worshipped in many guises, she is usually depicted in female form wearing a headdress containing the solar disk between two horns (a headdress often seen on Isis). Other forms are that of the winged cow of creation, a lioness, and sometimes a tree. Het-Hert was goddess of the sky, and of the
underworld. She fortold the child's inescapable fate at its birth; she owned the
very bodies in which men lived, since she created them As such, she reigned over all
bodily pleasures--and over the intoxicating festivals in honor of such pleasures--small
wonder her devotion lasted for over three millenia. Another of her manifestations was that
of the Sevenfold Hathor, or The Hathors. |
