Goddess of Willendorf Gifts
The Goddess of Willendorf figures featured here are based (sometimes loosely) on the original figure discovered in 1908 by
archeologist Josef Szombathy near Willendorf, Austria. It is believed to have been carved between 22,000 and 24,000 B.C., and it's original purpose is not known, but speculation abounds. The figure appears to represent a woman with plaited hair or headdress, indistinguishable face, and large breasts, stomach and hips, with small legs and tiny arms, leading many to believe that she is an ancient fertility goddess figure.
