Goddess Selket Gifts
Usually depicted as a lovely woman with a scorpion headdress, the cult of Selket was a serious affair. Priests of her cult were assigned to armies and charged with the task of curing solders who had been stung by scorpions or bitten by snakes--a fairly common and potentially deadly occurrence in the desert. Her worship was extremely important to mothers, since it was believed that she could protect young children from potentially deadly scorpion stings.

Brought to world attention during the museum tour of Egyptian antiquities from the Tomb of King Tutanhkamun during the 1970's, the original Selket (Serqet or Serket) Scorpion Goddess statue guarded the great gilded chest containing Tut's canopic jars.
