The vulture is the symbol of Nekhbet, one of the two guardian goddess of the pharaoh of of Egypt. Along with the goddess Wadjet, who is symbolized by a cobra, these two goddesses symbolize Upper Egypt (Nekhbet) and Lower Egypt (Wadjet), and are often seen wearing the crowns of those two regions. Upper Egypt is the fertile northern part of Egypt, where the Nile delta joins the sea.
