Egyptian Goddess Nekhbet - Page 1 The vulture was the symbol of upper (southern) Egypt, and was ruled by Nekhbet, the vulture-headed goddess. She also symbolized the ruler of the southern kingdome. After the unification of Egypt by Narmer (c. 3100 b.c.), the pharaohs used both the vulture of upper Egypt and the cobra of Lower (northern) Egypt in pictures and carvings to denote rulership over both kingdoms.
