Egyptians believed that to be worthy of life after death, a person had to live a just, honest life on earth, and that judgment was made on the deceased by Maat. If the heart of the deceased was lighter than her feather, then the person could live with the gods. If the heart was heavier than her feather, then the evil one would be fed to a ravenous monster.
