Egyptian Queen Cleopatra - Page 1 The most famous queen in Egyptian history--wasn't. Egyptian, that is. Cleopatra, the one that we know, was only one in a long line of women of that name. She was the decendant of General Ptolemy, who was rewarded the lands of Egypt from the conquering Macedonian, Alexander the Great around 320 BC. From that time, Egypt was ruled by the Greek line of Ptolemy. Cleopatra was said to have been enormously popular with her people, because she was the only Ptolemaic ruler to ever both to learn Egyptian, and because she would do just about anything to benefit her country and her people. | | |
